Visions of Sugar Plaums

Happy Monday!

Today I have a 2 page layout to share with you. I used Sugar Plum patterned paper by Recollections that I got at Michael's last year. I got a bunch of Christmas patterned paper on clearance last year after the holidays. I also did some mixing of files from Little Scraps of Heaven. I combined the following files: Twas the night before Christmas, Hot chocolate bears, and Valentine cupcake. The title was created in my MTC software.

Shabby Birthday Card

From now until January Little Scraps of Heaven Designs DT blog is taking a break from our weekly challenges. The design team still  wants to keep the inspiration going by creating projects for you!

This week I made a birthday card for a friend using the "Birthday Monkey Collection".  The patterned paper is London Market by Prima. As you can see in the picture I left the inside blank for lots of writing space. The letters were cut at approx 31/2 inch and the banners are 1 1/8 (color) and 3/4 (white). I added some ribbon and lace to my card for texture and the monkey is on foam squares for dimension. All my edges are  inked with Th distress inks.  Hopefully the recipient doesn't visit my blog until she receives it!

Anything Goes

This week's DT challenge is "Anything Goes" , so I decided to alter another charger plate from Michael's. Actually I am making 6, maybe ten of these if time permit's, as gifts for Christmas.

The pattern file I used for this plate is called "Dancing Penguins". Instead of using the music notes and the title in the pattern, I used snowflakes and typed my own title. For the snow, ice blocks and snowballs, I used pre-glittered card stock and inked the edges with TH distress ink in Tumbled Glass.

Bountiful Blessing double page layout

Happy Thanksgiving!

My layout today was created to hold those beautiful photos of friends, family and of course of the great food we all spend numerous hours preparing. I love the cute indian boy and girl that Tricia created and needed to use in somewhere somehow. I incorporated a few different patterns in my layout, "Indian boy", "Indian Girl", Scarecrow and friends", and "The Great outdoors". The title I came up with myself . Patterned paper is  by DCWV "The Autumn Melody" which is new this year.

I hope you all have a wonderful day full of loved ones and plenty of food!

Design Team Monday Challenge

Good Morning and welcome to another DT challenge. This week we had to create any kind of project card, layout, altered, etc... as long as it had 10 things I'm thankful for. So I created a home decor project using "banners vol. 2" and "thanks pocket". The numbers in the pockets are so I can write the 10 things I'm thankful for.  I used some fall picks from Michaels to decorate the bottom corners. Of course as usual my patterned paper is by DCWV.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check all the DT's projects on our blog or stop by the Facebook fan page too!

Weekly DT challenge and another layout

Sorry I'm a little late posting this week's DT challenge over at Little Scraps of Heaven Designs.

This week we had a layout sketch challenge. I used the "Pilgrim Mouse" and "Pilgrim Mouse Girl" files patterns. The title I typed up in my MTC software and cut with my Cameo.

I also wanted to share with you  a double page layout I created using one of the newest files, "Turkey Football". I fell in love with this file because my husband and his friends and now my teenage son, play football every year on Thanksgiving morning. The title is not part of the pattern set.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check the rest of the DT's challenge project on the blog or on LSHD Facebook fan page.

Anything Goes Weekly DT Challenge

For this week's  DT challenge I made a cover for my binder that I use to keep pictures of all the Little Scraps of Heaven Designs patterns I have. I print out pictures of my files as I get them and add them to my binder. I do this because sometimes I don't feel like turning on my computer but want to see what I have to get ready for my next project.

The file I used on this project is "Playful Bears". I just love bears in general and thought this set was perfect. Of course my patterned paper is from DCWV "Indian Summer".

I layered patterned paper by DCWV on top on some purple card stock. My little bats are from the LSHD pattern file "Going Batty" found here. The little tag hanging on the side with ribbon is a dollar stamp I got at Michael's too. These little guys are so adorable, I had a blast putting them together!

DT Monday Challenge ~Halloween Decor

Good Morning!  Welcome back for Design Team Monday Challenge. This week's DT challenge is Halloween Decor. We had to make anything BUT a card or layout.

For my project I bought a paper mache witch hat at Michael's and altered it. First I painted the hat inside and out, using black acrylic paint by Americana. Then I sprayed the brim with Moon Shadow Mist "Bucket O'Blood Red" by Lindy's Stamp Gang. Once it was all dried, I wrapped the cone part of the hat using some material I got at Joann's, and glued it down with my hot glue gun. I used the "Raggedy Wizard" pattern file on  my hat. He stands about approx. 8 inches tall and the pumpkin is about 5 inches. Behind the paper pieces I placed a Halloween pick I got at Michael's as well. On the edge of the hat's brim I hot glued feather boa all around the hat.

The pictures really don't do the project justice. It looks so much better in person. This was I fun project to make.

I used Halloween double sided patterned paper from last year by Recollections. The monster bride is from the pattern file "Franks Laboratory". I used Tim Holtz Distress inks to ink all my pieces. The sentiment on my card is from the dollar section at Michael's. The card measures 6 x 6.

Halloween Floral Arrangement

I decided to try something different this week. I really love making 3-d flowers, but didn't have a project right now that I wanted to use them on. So after a few hours of deep thinking I decided to make a floral arrangement for Halloween.

Pattern I used for this project is "My Paper Garden Vol. 2", flower #3.

Don't forget to stop by the LSHD store for the weekend sale, hurry ends Sunday Oct. 14th!

I will do my best  to explain the methods I used to make the flowers so you make some too.

After I open the file in my MTC software, I select all images and size it to where my largest petal in the file is approx 2 inches. This will make the finished flower approx 2 inches in size as well. Please note the file has 4 different size petals and quantities. So I cut out 3 of the large petals, 1 of the medium, 1 small and 3 x-small petals to make 1 3-D flower.

After my petals are cut,I then take a large stylus and slightly cup my first large flower petal.

Then I take the next large flower petal and cup just a little more then I did the first one.

Last large flower petal I cup it until my petals are up high.

Then I take the medium and small petals and cup them up high as well. For the 3 x-small petals I repeat the same as I did for the large petals in the beginning.

To assemble my flowers I use a hot glue gun on low. When I glued my petals together I did not worry about the hot glue strings because to me they looked like spider webs. If you want to add wire to your flowers like I did then here is were you add the wire. I take my first slightly cupped large petal and turn it upside down so the petals are pointing down. You don't have to do this, I just like this type of look. Pierce a small hole in the center and feed the wire thru leaving just a tiny bit to make an "L". I then add my glue and adhere the next large petal on top, offsetting the petals. Keep adding the petals until your flower is complete. On my flowers I did add leaves as well.

After all my flowers were done I chose a base. I did not have a vase, jar, or bottle available so I had to improvise. I took one of those large red plastic party drinking cups (approx. 16 oz.) and painted it black using acrylic paint. Since it was black I only did one coat. After paint was dry I turned cup upside down and made a hole in the center of the bottom of the cup, big enough to fit the flowers and my spider pick. I got my spider pick at Michael's.  Please note paint can scratch off when assembling arrangement.

Once I arranged my flowers I took some purple organza scraps and added them in between flowers to help hide the wire. I added a bow around the cup and a non-dimensional flower in the center of the bow.

This ended up being a fun project than can decorate your table, desk or any place around the home or office! Hope you give it a try if my instructions weren't to hard to follow.
